Squid Stir-Fry

Squid stir-fry(오징어볶음 ojingeo bokkeum) is a simple Korean stir-fry dish made from squid and often vegetables. Octopus stir-fry(낙지볶음 nakji bokkeum) is variation made essentially the same except with octopus.

Vegetables like onion, scallion, peppers, and even napa cabbage can be added.

Squid stir-fry is typically served with rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 giant scallion, sliced [substitute 1 onion + 2 scallion]
  • 1 green chili(풋고추 putgochu), sliced (optional)
  • 1 large squid, gutted and cleaned and cut into small strips [substitute 4 – 6 small squid or octopus]
  • 2 tbsp chili powder(고춧가루 gochugaru)
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp water
  • sesame seed, toasted (optional)

Directions

  • saute scallion, chili
  • add squid
  • add chili powder, sugar, soy sauce, water
  • simmer, stirring, until cooked through
  • garnish with sesame seed (optional)
  • serve
