Turkmen Cuisine

Turkmen cuisine is the cuisine of the Turkmen people, mainly in Turkmenistan and border regions of Iran and Afghanistan.

The Turkmen language is related to Turkish and Azerbaijani, and more distantly to other Turkish languages such as Kyrgyz and Uzbek.

Ashgabat is a cultural center.

Some foods, such as flatbread, are cooked in a tamdyr, a type of tandoor oven.

Dairy is commonly used as milk, butter, and yogurt. Camel milk is particularly popular in Turkmen cuisine.
