Kazakh cuisine is the food culture of the Kazakh people, mainly living in Kazakhstan.

Culture

The dombra(домбыра) is a long-necked, fretted lute played in traditional Kazakh music.

Kazakh people are traditionally nomadic and live in yurts, called kiyz uy(киіз үй).

Ingredients

Wheat is a staple food.

Apples have an ancient history in the region.

Horse, sheep, cow, and camel meat is used, as well as milk from these animals. Meat is often dried. Milk is also made into types of yogurt and cheese.

  • nan(нан): wheat flatbread, typically cooked in tandoor oven
  • manti(мәнті): seasoned ground meat dumplings, typically steamed
  • beshbarmak(бешбармак): chopped boiled meat with wheat dough noodles
  • qazi: horse rib sausage, often smoked
  • bayirsak(бауырсақ): fried dough made of wheat, butter, and other ingredients
