Mantou

Mantou(饅頭) is steamed leavened bread. It is a common breakfast food throughout China, especially in northern China where it is a traditional part of Lu cuisine.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup all-purpose wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • ¾ – 1 cup water

Directions

  • combine flour, yeast
  • gradually mix in water until combined
  • cover and let rise 1 hour
  • knead and roll into log
  • divide into 8 pieces
  • shape into balls (optional)
  • steam 15 minutes
  • serve
