Muchim(무침) means a seasoned side dish like a salad. It is a type of banchan(반찬) or side dish that can be served alongside a meal, usually with rice. There are many varieties of muchim made with all sorts of vegetables and other ingredients.
Soybean sprouts(콩나물) are a popular main ingredient for muchim with a fresh and juicy crunch. Soybeans can be sprouted at home and ready to use in a few days.
Kongnamul muchim is seasoned with common Korean seasonings such as soy sauce, sesame oil, and gochugaru(고춧가루) or chili powder.

Ingredients
- 12 oz soybean sprouts(콩나물) [substitute mung bean sprouts]
- 1 tsp light soy sauce(국감장) or ½ tsp salt
- ½ – 2 tsp gochugaru(고춧가루) (optional)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp sesame seed (optional)
Directions
- blanche soybean sprout in boiling water about 10 seconds
- drain and cool
- mix soybean sprout, soy sauce, gochugaru, sesame oil, sesame seed
- serve
