Baseisei

Baseisei is a Fijian dish made from young taro stem with coconut cream, chili, and citrus.

The thin stems of young taro plants(rourou) are used for baseisei. Large, mature taro stem can also be used but will need to be cut lengthwise into thinner strips.

Ingredients

  • 20 young taro stem, peeled, cut lengthwise if thick
  • 1 cup coconut cream
  • 4 scallion, chopped
  • 2 bird eye chili, chopped
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp calamansi juice [substitute lime or lemon juice]

Method

  • boil taro stem until softened
  • drain
  • mix in coconut cream, scallion, chili, salt, calamansi juice
  • serve
