Breadfruit gollai appan(gollai åppan lemmai) is seedless breadfruit(lemmai) stewed in coconut cream. Appan(åppan) means evaporated or dried up; breadfruit is cooked until it absorbs the coconut cream for a fairly dry result. The coconut cream will be more like a coating for the breadfruit pieces than a broth.
This simple dish is often served at festivals. Sugar is sometimes added for a sweet variation. Gollai appan can also be made with yam, taro, sweet potato, cooking banana, or other ingredients.
