Khao khoa(ເຂົ້າຄົ່ວ) is toasted sticky rice powder. It is a simple but significant ingredient in Lao cuisine.
It is made from any kind of glutinous rice, or sticky rice, by simply toasting and grinding the rice into powder. Toast the rice in a pan until browned. Once cool, grind with a mortar and pestle until there is an even powder texture.
Khao Khoa is a key ingredient in laab.
