Chili dipping sauce is served as a side to most meals in Laos. This popular Lao dip is locally known as jaew som(ແຈ່ວສົ້ມ). Jaew(ແຈ່ວ) means chili dipping sauce; som(ສົ້ມ) means sour. Jaew som is a basic dipping sauce with lime juice for a sour flavor that goes well with fresh vegetables.
